Now if I could just find an affordable milling machine and lathe so I colud make my own connectors, I would be all set....

Harbor freight has quite a few mini lathe's which cost in the range $300-$700. They also have some 3 in 1 machines that would do the job nicely for a reasonable price...

7 x 10 mini lathe for $369

8 x 12 mini lathe for $499

mini mill/drill/lathe for $399

There's more as well but these would almost be ideal for making fittings and misc other things. I almost bought the 7 x 10 mini lathe last year for making paintball marker parts. I still may get it whenever I decide to spend some more dough on tools. You can find used equip. for a reasonable price as well. I found a bridgeport with digital readouts and power feed cross slide for $900 and it only had .200 slop on the tables. Of course the bigger machines require a 410v outlet which I don't know many people to have at their home.

I have been eyeing the inexpensive mills and lathes for quite a while....

I really like the 8x12 Lathe with the Mini Mill at Grizley.....

I want them but once I get them and all the accessories I want for them, I would be well over $1,000 and being married to an accountant makes it hard to spen that kind of money when we just spent a small forturne on the deck parts and it is not finished.... and owining two cars with at lest 116 K Miles on them that will need to be replaced in the next 5 years....

One can always dream.

BTW my brother is in charge of a project to robotiacly manufacture ships...

Talk about headaches.... you want to be accurate to 0.001" but the darn thing will shrink and expand with tempature thruout the day by over 6". But that is why he earns the big bucks...

Model Expo is a model shipbuilding store and they just sent me a catalog (they also sell online). The have a "Proxxon" micro milling machine on sale for $270, down from $340. The model number is PRO37110. You won't find it on a normal search for milling machines online, but put in the model number in the search field and it will come up. If it doesn't show the sale price, call them.

Then also have a mini lathe as well, for $130.

I am intreseted in this milling machine

With a rotary table and some other nice attachments and tools/bits/mills...

I am also intrested in this Lathe

With some attachmets and tools,

But the bill will be over $1,000 to get them and I dont know how mcuh I would realy use them.

I have a nice router that I could use as a motor, but to build a x-y table etc to make it into a milling machine, might take too much work and $$$$$$$$$$

Modo Expo's tools are a little to small for my uses....

Look's like Grizzly brand photo's. The company has two locations one out west in the state of Wash. and one here in Williamsport Pa. Each year in the spring and fall they have a scratch and dent tent sale . Dont know why they call it a tent sale cause there's so much stuff there arnt tents big enough . Incredible discounts. I just bought a pancake compressor for my air nailer --125.00 list price. I paid 45.00 bucks. It was a damaged peice with a broken gauge. bought a new gauge 6.95 . There were dozens of lathes , milling machines , table saws , Too much to list. If its in their catalog you'll find it in the sale. The check out area has 14 windows and zig zag rails to handle the crowd. Admission is free ,worth the trip even if you dont buy a thing! Thought I would pass it on .

These could be used with an inexpensive drill press to machine plastics. I wouldn't suggest trying to machine metal with a drill press though.

4" rotorary table

6" cross slide vise

I think I may get these and see how they do on our drill press. It isn't very versitile with speeds but a good finish on plastic isn't that necessary.

BTW they have different sizes of both the rotorary table and cross slide vise.

Cliff, that was cruel. Now you have contributed to a potential stroke or heart attack as Harold waits with high anticipation for this sale, and possibly contributed to a hernia when he gets there. That does not even take into account the irritation of his wife as she hears the phrase "But honey, it's a once a year sale, I just gotta see what's there" for the 500th time. (Not that I've ever been like that. No no no. Rolling Eyes )

Cliff,

Yes it is Grizley and the photos are clickable links to their website if you want details.

Are you going to the sale next time they have it?????? Let me know when it is and I may come up for the weekend....

I WANT these tools.... I don't know what I woudl build with them or how many times they would get used, but I want them.....

Or better yet.... a CNC milling machine. Now that would be NICE!!!!!!!

Fool,

I did think about the cross slide table for my drill press, but I also want to mill aluminum, brass and some steels.

But it is a good idea if you can lock the quill on your drill press. Mine does not lock so I would have to modify it to work as a milling machine.
