My favorite, A 20 oz Hart California framer.
A hammer gives you time to think, and a nailgun saves you more time to waste pulling hastily-placed nails. Good for commercial framing, but pretty rough-looking on exposed framing. |

Cliff, by sail cutter do you mean his "Engel Hot Cutter-Pro"? Steve is this on 15% savings in November?

Hi Dave, yes you are correct, the cutter is German made and one heck of a tool . I've had this one for more than 6 or 7 years, maybe more. One time I was laying a new carpet and expirenced difficulty cutting it. It was some kind of nasty Olifin or some synthic material. It resisted tin shears, Utility knife blades would hold up for about 2 to 3 ft of cutting and then became to dull to cut further. I then tried the Engle cutter with the #095 blade and proceeded to cut prox 75 ft lin. ft. of carpet. the tool worked like a charm . The amazing thing was the tool did not get hot to hold . I find that this jober can cut for hours and never get hot. The # 096 tip that I use most of the time will glow red, it does not melt the nylon fabric back away from the cut mark . Is it pricy , yes, But it will perform . It will probably be the last one you will ever buy I like the quality cuts it makes so much that I very seldum cold cut. My kite fabrication is like the Stanfield method. As you probably know all panels are but joined with a strip over the joints. This requires lots of hot cutting, all done with my Engle. I guess it sounds like I'm sold on the product, You Bet.

Stan, I will take the PC nailer I have as it did a great job and we finished before the rain set in. With my hammer I would have been wet for 3 days. But like you said the double hits are a PIA.

I just got this sail cutter Friday. Big difference! That X-acto cutter is not worth a hoot compaired to this on. Using it now to cut out some Rokkaku patterns WOW   Glad the wife let me have this cutter. Like kitesquid said best darn cutter on the planet. Money well spent and glad Steve had it on sale too!

BTW when I use mine I pull the trigger and wait a few seconds till I see smoke rising from the blade from the residue of previous cuts, to tell it it hot enough, and then I start cutting....

You are welcome.
They are not instant but very fast to heat up. about 3 to 5 seconds, depending on room temp and how long sense you used it last.... seconds of minutes to cool off. also which tip you have installed.
