I have some stacked diamond kites by "Jet Kite" in Oregon. I would like to get more of the nose pieces to make and add kites to the stack. What are the legal implications of copying this Question

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see copying a kite to use for your own purposes as a problem. Even if its design is patented or copyrighted. However, copying it to sell may be a different story - particularly if its patented or copyrighted.

The nose fittings are hard to get ... can you describe it? Diameter of the spars used? Is the Leading Edge and Spine in the same 'plane' or is there a compound angle built into the fitting? I ask this because I have seen several types... and I am not familiar with the Jet Kite.

As far as copying a kite that is no longer in production, for your own use, I dont really see a problem. But why not change something to make it different? Or better yet, make it better!

The subject of "copying kites" comes up often and I'll be moving these posts to the "kite building" category

I would probably have you make the fitting Steve, but I don't want to ask you to do something that is illegal.

The "nose Piece" connects the two wing spars and the spine. With the kite laying on it's back the wings spars are about 90 degrees to each other and the spine sticks up at an angle. When I get ready I could send one of the pieces if that would be easiest. Then we could discuss improvements.

Thanks,

Sounds like the old Dyna-Kite nose fitting.... which would have been my first guess. There are many Dyna-Kite Knock offs out there. I have these fittings. All three holes accomodate a 1/4" OD spar.

I'll add a photo later today...
