|

G'day.
I'm shopping for as much parachute and ballon fabric as I can find (read 'afford').
I want to build a really big Spikey Ball. A really, really big one. ie: 20+ feet in diameter.
I have a line on 34m or parachute fabric, but need more. Much, much more.
This will be one of my winter projects.
Can you help?
Thanks

Hmmmm,
A Spikey ball with a diameter of 6.1m (20 feet) has a surface area of 117 square meters
That's A LOT of fabric

I can't find anything like that here in the middle of the praries. Not a lot of boating going on round here. And I believe all the Canadian balloon makers are out east or in Vancover <sigh>
Otherwise, I'm certain I would be visting them every other day. I would.
So, at the current moment, I may have a lead on another 30 m of fabric. So that, plus the 34 m I've already mentioned takes me up to half of the total amount that would be required. Hmmm, this is starting to look possible
Cheers,

I think I spoke to soon
I just found that a local baloon ride company makes thier own balloons out east. BUT, they also have a local repair shop somewhere. Now I just go to find it

I definatly spoke to soon
I just called another baloon ride company. This guy said he as banners that are 30' X 20' and made of the same material. He said he has lot's of 'em and would be willing to sell them.
The search continues.

WOO-HOO!!!
I think I just found a whole freaking hot-air balloon!!!!
I called another one of the balloon ride companies here in Calgary and asked what they do to repair thier balloons. I explained to the guy why I'm looking and what I want to do.
He then says that he has an older balloon just laying around and that he's willing to part with it!!!
Damm!! A whole hot-air balloon!!!
Cheers,

Hmm, you know what? I was so excited when this guy said he had an old balloon buried away that he could sell off, that I didn't even ask him what color _________________ There is no box.

Dont pay much for it as the fabric is probally will not last long.
They have to retire balloons after so many hours of operation by FAA regulations.
The same is true for parachutes....
Look in dumpsters for them at flight schools or repair facialties would be my guess at finding them for free. _________________ VR/
