Remember that not all alcohols are not the same. Ethyl, Methyl, Isopropyl, etc are distinctly different and so it should not be considered that since one works, they all work. Even denaturing can make a difference. When the Svaboda's from Canada did their class at Ft Worden, they couldn't get pure Methyl alcohol, and had to use a denatured Methyl. They noted that afterwards that denatured Methyl does not work as well as pure Methyl. So before you start painting/dying with an alcohol different from one you have already tried, do a spot test.

Further, be sure to let it dry/cure and check the results. Remember that alcohol is a solvent (real suprise in my college days when friends found out that Everclear (190 proof) will dissolve the adhesive on paper cups and even soften the paper, and then it ends up in your lap ). So you may find that a particular alcohol will soften/warp the paper/media/substrate to which you are applying it.

Also remember to have good ventilation and perhaps use a paint brush. Those of you you have ever experienced a Ethyl alcohol rub/massage can attest that alcohol can indeed be absorbed through the skin and as a solvent, it can carry stuff with it.

My Son has a nascar sportsman modified race car and the fuel is methyl alcohol . we pay about 5.00 per gallon. Some comes direct from a refinery and some cheaper stuff is sold as re-claimed that comes from fabric mills. Dont know what thier process is but we dont like the small peices of lint found in the fuel . Also the water content is higher as the alcohol absorbes moisture. The good thing is at 5.00 bucks a gallon it dosent have federal road taxes. Up's must be quiet, Uncle Sam might think of a track tax.
I think I might try some expirementing with it --let you know.

Boy, your comments have brought back memories?? Comments bantered around here have been about friends and their escapades during our younger and more naive (stupider???) days. I never tried Everclear because it sounded too scary!!!

I wish I had more time to try all the interesting ideas you have all tossed out. Let us know how your experiments come out. Inquiring minds want to know.

I'll give RIT and denatured alcohol a try. Have the itch to make some tie-dyed fighters. Tyvek may not be the best fighter sail material but it'll work until I find something better to dye and tinker with...
