I was looking through the discussions for the Della Porta project for bridle & flying line specs. I am interested in building this kite but, this being my first project, was unsure of what strength of line to order.

Any ideas what strength dacron is recommended for the bridle & flying line for this particular kite?

I see that some of my store-bought kites use heavier line for the bridle, is there a rule of thumb in general for single-line kites?

Thanks,
Mark.

I don't really know what the rule of thumb is, but on my Della Porta, I use 80 lb dacron for both the bridle and flying line. I've flown it to the upper limits of it's wind range (when it bends so much the fabric starts to flap) and never had a problem with the bridle.
80 lb dacron is what I use to bridle most of my kites with as well.

Cheers,
P.

For most of my kites I use either the cut off bits of line from my lost Rokkaku battles Shocked or for a highter tech line I use Braided Dacron with a Spectra core. Look at the high end sport kites in manufacture to see this line.

I used to make it myself by threadidng the Spectra thru the braided Dacron but I found it at an online kite parts seller...
