Hi there,
Iam looking for a supply line of thin Bamboo .03 mm or thereabouts, as long as feasable, to post. ( to build a flock of crows). I have made a frame from scratch but my hands will be out of action for some time. Its like playing cards with razor blades.
Has anybody any ideas. How about you Steve????
TTFN.

They aren't as common these days, but some import stores still carry roll-up bamboo window shades. They contain enough material to yield a number of good pieces. Flea markets, boot sales sales or whatever they're called in your area may turn something up.
Hope your fingers heal soon |

Fiber glass rods, .07 or .08, might work. _________________

hi there,
I feel sure that there is no sustitute for bamboo (How about it Steve, any ideas?) as there has to be a certain amount of pre forming to effect an aerofoil and of course this is done by warming and shaping the bamboo, after it has cooled you have your shape.
By the way if anybody attempts this kite, ensure that you attach the shaped peices to give the aerofoil the correct way. I didn't, so had to start all over again.
TTFN,
Selwyn.
P.S. Not flown it yet, but feel reasonably confident. S. |

Do you have a picture or sketch of your Crow or flock of? I am curious what it is exactly that you are building.

Hi Knotty,
Try this sight,

I think you'll find it quite interesting.
And it should answer your query.

I read somewhere (maybe a year or more ago at GWTW) about a guy that razor slit Carbon spars and superglued (Squid would say 5min epoxy) them back together in a new shape.
Also from my Squidisms recall "bamboo is natures Carbon fiber"
Doesn't Mr Steve sell rectangular Carbon fiber that the fighter kite folks do exactly this sort of thing with? _________________ Randy

I mentioned that Ed Shenk does this for the spines in his fighters to give them a permanent bow... _________________ VR/
