Progcraft,

I tend to put a common object in my kite pix to show scale. It used to always be a beer, but I noticed my website looked like and ad for AA! Embarassed

I would use 3/16 or thicker medium density or high density fiber board (mdf or hdf) it is much denser, has no grain to make you cutter run away, will likely be cheaper, you can hot cut on it, and will not give splinters like luaun can. the stuff at the home centers sold as "tile board" would also work nicely,(the smooth ones)

Or you could use Formica plastic laminate for the cover. It would make a lighter weight "table" I would think.

I really like your idea, Jimbo. Thanks for sharing.

well the beauty of luan is that its already a 3 ply product, and much lighter than mdf, or hard board. You get a much stiffer table top.

But yes luan splinters at the edge if you dont apply a finish. (kinda like the doors). Which I was comparing to.

As for cutting, our tables were skinned with .188 UHMW for our roller cutters and knives. but it adds about 100 bucks to the price, lol.

C-ya, Jimbo.
