How many of you will be attending this year? Look for Jerry and I, accompanied by our small service dog, Susie. We will probably be hanging out near the children's kitemaking tent and will have be driving our old brown "kitebag truck."

Apparently there will be some first time kite builders from the Mainframe customer base. Herb says there's been a lot of activity with folks scrambling for rods, line, roks for the rok fights, etc.

I should be there on Thursday entering two of the kite building categories, cellular and flat/bowed, and maybe delta. I just have to get out this weekend to decide just which kites I'll be entering.

I need to move east or west so I can get into some of the big festivals. I am going to Callaway, Nebraska on Labor Day weekend. Any one else going to be there?

I will be at Long Beach from Sunday evening until the next Sunday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing all of you there. There will be a lot of Pun Fun and Rok & Rollin' on the beach.

Take some sand home with you. Otherwise, it just gets in my car.

I'll be down next weekend. We are bringing a couple of our nephews (and their Mom) to spectate.

Thanks a lot Rob! I will have the old Audi stuffed to the windows with kites and other stuff. The trick is to find what I need when I need it. One of these days I will have everything organized. Yeah, that will be the day!!

Oops, I am already back. I managed to find most everything I needed when I needed it. Pun fun was a smashing success. At least I think it went well.

I judged the novice and journeyman handcrafted class for flight. This proved to be a long day so I amused the crowd and myself by writing in the sand and passing out 'hands' to everyone who wanted one. Did anyone get pictures?

On Saturday the rain dumped on us about 1 PM. It looked as if we would not be able to have a rokkaku battle. But, my team was game and we charged out on the field feeling secure we would win by default because no one else would be silly enough to get out in the rain. However, I understand that someone in the tent challenged the other teams to get out on the field so they wouldn't be "beaten by a girl." Darn his hide! By the time everyone got excited and out there we had six teams standing in the rain. We had no announcer, no designated judges, and no coordinator. Oh well, I got people to judge and we got started. By the time the three heats were over, we had cut several kites, broken the Taz's spine twice, and were soaked to our underwear. (Oops, too much information???) But, we were having a good time and what was left of the crowd seemed to also be enjoying themselves. They were staying dry under the big tent and we were running around like crazy people out in the cold rain.

Red, White, & Blue took first. Two Fat Men + One took second. I don't remember who got third place but Team Taz was voted as the winners of Team Spirit. Which, in my opinion, is better than getting a first place ribbon!!

Oh well, time to get off for now,
knot(tier)ronda

That's the great thing about WSIKF we had 2 days of rain but we still were able to fly the first 5 days with pretty decent weather.

Actually, several of us flew 6 days at we went a day early for the Kite Museum's "Historical Kite" event. Also, the sun came out on Sun., just after most people pooped out!

I got 1st place, Journeyman, figure kites, with my yeibichai. More to the point, it was chosen as one of the top 10 kites in the delta/delta derivitive mass assention!

My kid's day events exceeded all of my expectaitons. At one point we had about 150 kids out on the field with nearly one-on-one help in kite flying from adult kiters!
