When we first got married, my wife started using affectionate tags like "honeymuffin" etc, and I have a strong aversion to such tags. That's because I grew up at my parent's fishing resort, and Mom would say things like "Honey, get these guys a boat". From that point, until I got the guys launched, these large, microcephalic rednecks, would be saying: "Honnnney, help me with my tackle box," "Honnney, help me into the boat," and "Honnney, I forgot my pole, will you get it for me Deeear?". I got to really hate the expressions "Honey," "Dear", and etc.
Of course my wife did not appreciate the extent of my aversion, and assumed she could train me into liking these expressions again by repeated use. So I started my own list of endearing expressions. One of the most successful for getting the point across was "My little honeybucket." She obviously didn't kill me, as we have been happily together for about 20 yrs now, and only calls me "Honey" if she can't seem to get my attention any other way. Your mention of a lady named "Latrina" reminded me of the honeybucket moniker.
