I use Japanese water stones for mine, but diamond stones sound much easier. Maybe if I ever buy some real scissors....

the real advantage in long use is the Diamond hones stay flat.
all other stones wear and you have to lap them flat again.
Too much work for me,
But the large diamond hones are expensive, but good stones are not cheep either.
That is why I bought the Dia fold hones as they were affordable and do a GREAT job. If I were to do it all over again I would buy the fine/extra fine DuoSharp® plus and just skip the rest but $$$$$$$$$$$$ talks _________________ VR/

I purchased some inexpensive diamond hones at Harbor Freight and they seem to be of acceptable quality, especially when you look at the price. But they dont include the extra fine hone
I am now looking for some wet or dry sand paper (Silicon Carbide abrasive) in the 2000 grit or finer range..... _________________ VR/

I use a set of Crock Sticks to sharpen my knives and any pair of scissors that need it, including my hairdresser's hair cutting scissors. The model I have also has a single hole drilled into the end of the wooden base, that holds 1 rod at precisely the right angle for scissors (whatever angle that is)
But I wish I had bought a similar sharpening system that had triangular stones instead, cause they would remove dings from the knife blades better.
BTW KiteSquid, it's not that you had those scissors too sharp, you made them too SMOOTH. You need to leave some of those tiny ridges so the blade can "grip" the material to be cut (like the thread). I'm sure you figured it out, but I'm just restating it differently for anyone who might have missed that point. _________________ "The wind is the perfect reminder of God.

I don’t scissor fabric with scissors.
I normally do the Randy Tom/Jose Sainz reverse appliqué technique in my kite building, in that I hold the blades at a constant angle to each other and push the scissors thru the fabric. I only use the first one quarter inch of the blades. The only scissoring I do is at the ends of the long runs just to close the blades.
I want my scissors to be SCARY SHARP without any micro serrations, but when I stropped them I tested the blade and cut my thumb BAD... OUCH!!!! They were so sharp that they cut the stitched thread quite often and that is NOT what I intended.
I have looked at high dollar barber scissors and one of the blades has small serrations so that the hair has a place to stop to be cut buy the other blade. That is not what I am trying to accomplish.
I will be happy with the finish I get with my buffing wheel with the red grinding compound, but I do not want to take my bench grinder to workshops, so for now I will have to be happy with the green diamond hone until I can find something finer that is portable. _________________ VR/

I admit that for scissors I usually look for a knife sharpening shop (a dying breed). The little old guy that I took them to last time did "paper sharpening" (I think he used the paper as a strop like a razor strop). Those scissors came out factory straight and razor sharp, and I do mean razor sharp (don't touch the blades).
I also had him do some knives, and they likewise were so much sharper than I could have done myself (And yes I can put a good edge on a knife. As a kid I used to trap and skin muskrats and mink, and honed my knifes before every skinning session). His edges were scalpel sharp.
