Has anbody used one of these yet?
It looks like it may work well in kite building.. but I dont know if it will heat up without solder, but I will try to call or e mail the question to them.
After reading the online owner's manual, it looks like it will not work without an electriacl connection between the two parts of the tip, so it probally will not work in normal kite builidng.....
Rapid heat up and cool down.
Cordless.
Light weight....
Look HERE for more details _________________ VR/

interesting, and at a good price point. I just ordered one. I am a little concerned about that tip though..... looks like an angled tuning fork. It will make a thin piece of waste with every cut.
I'll let you know. _________________ Steve Ferrel

Hopefully they have a good product, but the slick ad campaign and "as seen on QVC" blurbs don't inpire. Is Ron Popiel involved?
I guess I'm still angry about that spray-on hair I bought...

I looked at the cold heat soldering iron very hard. It looks like a great product, but you must have solder at the points of the tip for it to generate heat. _________________ Rich Durant

I can use this in my toolbox even if not for kites.... but do you think it would work if the cutting surface was metal? _________________ Steve Ferrel

Maybe you will need to put a little trigger on the iron to press a metal contact on the point when you are ready to cut. Or perhaps just figure a way to solder your kites together. _________________

Back in the days when I was a Consultant for Sprung Structures, I did tons and tons of seam sealing of fabric. I hate it. Especially on Tedlar coated fabric <shudder> The heat guns we used are about as top of the line as you can get. At a setting of 6 (out of 10), you can light a cigarette 2 inchs away from the tip with just the hot air blowing out On a setting of 8, you no longer 'burn' yourself. Instead, your skin just evaporates on contact. OUCH!!!!
I've had to seam seal fabric is some strange places too. One time, in Pensacola, I had to put a building up around a MD88 airplane. The wings stuck out the side, the front 150 feet stuck out the front, and the tail stuck out the roof. I had to seal the fabric as tight as possible around all of those openings to ensure no rain came in. Yeah, that's tough.
