I'm pretty sure it's going to end up being some kind of painting done on rip stop to stay away from a heavy fabric to have an oriental design. Is there any available oriental fabric with good kite quality? I'd kind of like a Samari warrior or something else like that for a Japanese friends kids. I gotta make at least one of those that look like 3 rectangular panel Japanese kites. They look like 3 small silk screens side to side with smaller ones on the side and have scenery or something like that on them. |

Hi tradewinds, I have made a rok with a samuri warrier on the sail . I painted the image on the Ripstop fabric using artists brushes and floral spray paint . I took the spray can and sprayed the paint into a small cup and used a brush to apply it. Use small amounts at a time as it drys very fast. I also have used acrlyic artist paint .It adheres quite well and remains flixible . Do not apply to thick. I also used ordinary Krylon brand spray paint with a brush but was not pleased with the resultes.
Give it a try nothing to loose . Expirement.
Regards

Thanks. I was even checking piles of Japanese place mats that are double sided with the same desins front and rear. But the sizes were small and fabric like a brick. Slowly but surely. Maybe I ought to use some of the white .5oz Ripstop from Steve on a kite for the kids to paint. That would give the kids a little more hand in it. |
