I know that Kevlar is the bane of many kiters, just as monofilament fishing line, but I'm looking for some 150lb everyday stuff (maybe other weights too) to protect me and my investment from being cut from an errent kids kite on the flying field.

It just drives me nuts when kids and sometimes adults find it necessary (especially when it's a big field) to bring their cheapy kite near my displays. Just looking at the cut bridles of my flowform it's apparent that it's an inherent hazard that should be protected against.

Thus, my quest for some Kevlar braided line. (I promise not to use it on the Rokkaku battle field.)

GWTW has some, up to 300#, and I think Hang-Em-High has some too, but Bonnie's website doesn't seem to be working right now.
I'll bet Steve has some right here at KiteStudio, but he "hides" it in the backroom for those "discreet" purchases. Wink

Thanks!

This is "Yellow Death" fighter line!

If Steve's hiding it, it sounds like bootleg moonshine!

You can find it here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2567&item=5901027228&rd=1

oops, I think maybe this is twisted instead of braided. Embarassed

Don't know if 150# is strong enough, though. I found some 200# line at the same source a while back. I use it to fly things under the cinditions you mention.

I've got about 500 feet of 100# Kevlar on the shelf. First come first serve.... Twisted Evil

I don't normally stock it, but often special order it for customers. I usually place orders for line about every 6 weeks or so, and the order usually take 4-6 weeks to arrive, so If you want some let me know....

I can oder Kevlar in the following strengths (pound test) and approximate costs (per foot):

50# $0.06
100# $0.07
200# $0.09
300# $0.15
500# $0.21
700# $0.30
900# $0.33

*NOTE: these are 2002 prices and will probably be a little higher.

Hmmm $35 bucks... Is it braided or twisted? How thin is it? The stuff off of eBay is like sewing thread - not good to hold.

It was maddening this past weekend. A bunch of us were flying team stunt kites. I got cut twice. We snagged a bunch of lines. Folks flying single line kites just move towards you when you are flying team even when you ask them nicely to please stay away.
