Challenge Sailcloth

.75 Oz. Fleetwing

.75 Oz. Fleetwing is a very tight weave 30 denier nylon spinnaker fabric which is the choice of both top Grand Prix big boats, Olympic medal winners and cruisers. Continually improved and re-engineered, it remains the leader among the work horse of spinnaker materials. ".75 Oz." Fleetwing now has an enhanced stabilized finish, which offers good flatness, near zero porosity, and high tear-resistance as well as low stretch.

Construction

While warp oriented, the fabric still has a very high fill denier count, making it the standard on One Design spinnakers, with numerous Olympic Medals to its credit.

Actual weight: .96 to .99 Oz. per sailmakers yard: 36" x 28.5" (the term ".75" Oz. has long been used for this fabric. Only Challenge ".5 Oz." weighs as low as .75 Oz.!).

Available in 41" and 54" in same construction.

Finish

Near zero porosity achieved through weave tightness. Unlike competing coated ".75's" Fleetwing does not need coating to plug holes of a loose weave. Coated .75 Oz. fabrics must have lower construction in order to be on weight when heavy coating is added. Unlike "half-ounce" materials where coated loose weaves make the best fabrics, and are the only way to obtain light weight with zero porosity, .75 Oz. fabrics are so tight they don't need coatings.

Enhanced stabilized finish provides maximum durability as well as lowest stretch. Challenge's resin penetration processing ensures even saturation and distribution of resin fibres (beware of ".75's" with soft one sided coating which prevents full and even penetration of resin. The resin provides the modulus and durability, not the soft coating).

Finishing is done 100% in house. Challenge is the largest American sailcloth manufacturer to process all its fabric in house. As a result we inspect every yard of fabric. Our largest competitors are miles or oceans away from their manufacturing.
